MENTAL HEALTH IN PRIMARY CARE
As a Family Nurse Practitioner working in primary care mental health is something that is tightly woven into my practice. In today’s video I share my approaches to how I incorporate the diagnosis, treatment and assessment of anxiety and depression, two of the most common presenting concerns I see in primary care. I’ll also share my own story of postpartum depression that opened my eyes to the reality of living with poor mental health. Finally, I’ll share my tips for how to approach and talk about mental health with patients you may see in your practice.
TIPS FOR PRECEPTING NURSES
In this weeks video I’ll talk you through my strategy for precepting nurses, both new grads as well as seasoned nurses new to your unit. We will go over how I like to tackle the first day, what expectations I set from the get go, how I like to slowly build autonomy, as well as what to do when your precepting relationship is not going well. Being a preceptor to new nurses to your unit is a huge responsibility, but it also provides you with the opportunity to learn and you get a built in buddy for awhile.
