This week we will discuss what I’m most worried about going into the birth of baby number two, how I approach physical exams, what I talk about with drug reps and new providers when they come visit the office, as well as starting end of life and goals of care conversations. We also tour the hospital I’ll be having the baby in, and Avery insults my baking. Have great week!

DO NEW NURSES HAVE TO START IN MED SURG?
In today’s video we tackle the question “Do you new grad nurses have to start on a Med-Surg Unit”. When I was in school this was the popular idea, and it seems to be frequently encouraged to this day, because I get asked this all the time! I DID start in med-surg but not entirely by choice, as you’ll hear. However, it gave me some great insight to bring to you, and I can give you the pro’s and con’s of starting in Med-Surg versus a specialty.

And don’t forget to leave those baby names down below!
COPING WITH PATIENT DEATH
In today’s video we will talk about some of my coping mechanisms I put in place when patients die or experience poor outcomes. Dealing with patient loss and the general sadness that can come with healthcare was something that caught me completely off guard coming out of nursing school, and it took me a long time to figure out how to process what I was seeing when I went to work. Hopefully this is helpful for some of you who may be experiencing the same thing.
