This week we got house stuff done! At least we tried too. Avery got sick again which put a bit of a damper on our plans, but overall still super productive! We got our new Lull mattress for our bed, which we are loving, and Iām sleeping super soundly for once! We also put together our guest room, organized the garage, and decorated Averyās room. Iāll take you along for all the Memorial Day weekend adventures as well as the usual work week, where we will discuss what to do when you donāt know what to do with your patients, how we handle when to refer vs not, and the usual! Hope you had a great holiday as well!

MENTAL HEALTH IN PRIMARY CARE
As a Family Nurse Practitioner working in primary care mental health is something that is tightly woven into my practice. In todayās video I share my approaches to how I incorporate the diagnosis, treatment and assessment of anxiety and depression, two of the most common presenting concerns I see in primary care. Iāll also share my own story of postpartum depression that opened my eyes to the reality of living with poor mental health. Finally, Iāll share my tips for how to approach and talk about mental health with patients you may see in your practice.
THE AFTERMATH OF VACATION
In this weeks vlog I had quite the surprise as I returned back to work at my Family Nurse Practitioner Job. Iām very used to my Registered Nurse Job where my return is fairly smooth, and this was anything but. Iāll also talk you through how I handle it when patients canāt go to a specialist but they need one, how I decide between therapy and medication for anxiety and depression, how I look up new information when I encounter unfamiliar diagnoses, and my tips for monitoring blood pressure at home!
TIPS FOR PRECEPTING NURSES
In this weeks video Iāll talk you through my strategy for precepting nurses, both new grads as well as seasoned nurses new to your unit. We will go over how I like to tackle the first day, what expectations I set from the get go, how I like to slowly build autonomy, as well as what to do when your precepting relationship is not going well. Being a preceptor to new nurses to your unit is a huge responsibility, but it also provides you with the opportunity to learn and you get a built in buddy for awhile. Hope these tips are helpful for you if you are beginning your preceptor journey!
