I love pediatric nursing. Kids have such resilience and bravery in the face of illness, and it was truly an honor to provide nursing care to them for so many years. While pediatric nursing is a ton of fun, think wagon rides, and bubbles, it also can be frightening, due to how different it is from other areas of nursing. This video will cover my tips and tricks for planning your day as a nurse, nursing student, or NP with pediatric patients. I’ll go over how to assess them, my trick for getting blood pressures on squirmy little legs, and how on earth you can get a 5 year old to take their lasix. Hopefully by the end of the video you will feel a bit more prepared to enter your clinical or new job in pediatrics, and love it just as much as I did!

LEARNING CURVE
The learning curve as a new Family Nurse Practitioner is crazy! I was really feeling it this week now that the “new job” warm and fuzzy feelings have worn off.
As a distraction from the stress I am trying out new sunglasses! Because there is a TON of sun in North Carolina, who knew. Make sure to vote for your favorite ones!

In this video I will also share what new method I have come up with to organize the topics I encounter in clinic that I am unfamiliar with. I think they could be incredibly helpful for students and professionals, of all kinds really! Let me know what you think!
FINDING BALANCE
Finding balance between work, nursing school, and life can be tricky! I know it took me YEARS and two rounds of nursing school (BSN and NP School) to figure out how to do life, school, and work all at the same time without reaching total burnout within the first few weeks of the semester. Nursing school, whatever type it is, tends to suck the life out of you, and when you combine that with working and tending to your everyday life, it is easy to become overwhelmed. I am certainly no expert on how to “do it all”, but I did survive both an accelerated nursing program and Nurse Practitioner school and kept the same guy around, so that has to count for something, right?! In this video I’ll share my tips for balancing life, work and school. Keep in mind that everyones journey is unique, so at the end of the day, you do what you need to do! You know whats best for YOU.
FIRST DAY OF WORK AS AN FNP
The week I have been waiting for has finally arrived! I started my Family Nurse Practitioner job this week! In this vlog I’ll take you with me as I go through my very first week as an NP. Avery goes to her new daycare for the first time, and I have my usual rambles about how everything makes me feel. I have been waiting in anticipation for this week for so long, and it has been the cause of lots of anxious nights and excited clapping. But I am oh so glad its over, and hope enjoy 🙂
