In this weeks vlog I had quite the surprise as I returned back to work at my Family Nurse Practitioner Job. I’m very used to my Registered Nurse Job where my return is fairly smooth, and this was anything but. I’ll also talk you through how I handle it when patients can’t go to a specialist but they need one, how I decide between therapy and medication for anxiety and depression, how I look up new information when I encounter unfamiliar diagnoses, and my tips for monitoring blood pressure at home!
TIPS FOR PRECEPTING NURSES
In this weeks video I’ll talk you through my strategy for precepting nurses, both new grads as well as seasoned nurses new to your unit. We will go over how I like to tackle the first day, what expectations I set from the get go, how I like to slowly build autonomy, as well as what to do when your precepting relationship is not going well. Being a preceptor to new nurses to your unit is a huge responsibility, but it also provides you with the opportunity to learn and you get a built in buddy for awhile. Hope these tips are helpful for you if you are beginning your preceptor journey!
FAMILY VACATION 2019
This week we went on a family trip to Myrtle Beach with my family! It was such a great break from the regular grind.
CAN YOU HAVE A BABY IN NURSING OR NP SCHOOL?
I had a baby in NP (Nurse Practitioner) School. Was it challenging? Yes. But was it doable? Also yes. In today’s video I’ll be discussing a topic that comes up quite frequently. Can you become a parent, while in nursing or np school? Is having a baby in NP school or nursing school doable? And when is the best time to have a baby while in nursing or NP school. I’ll also give you some tips of what I would have done differently if I could do it all again.
