What do you do when your baby is sick and you have to miss work? We have been working on navigating that lately and it’s honestly been rough! Working in healthcare especially, it feels like your absence affects so much and I feel insanely guilty staying home to care for my sick child, but at the same time that is where I want to be the most. In the video I’ll explain how we approach this aspect of being a working parent, why I think its the hardest, and some solutions we will be trying to see if it makes things easier. I’ll also talk about physicals, how to know when people should come in for follow up appointments, and we go to the “zoo”.
HOW I EXPLAIN LAB WORK TO PATIENTS
In today’s video I go over how I talk to my patients about their lab work. The labs we will be looking at are a CBC (Complete Blood Count), CMP (Complete Metabolic Panel), Thyroid with TSH, Hemoglobin A1C, and Lipid Panel. I’ll also give you some tips that I use In primary care for discussing lab work with patients that helps with retention and what I like to touch on with basic disease management. As I mentioned in the video, these aren’t the most scientific descriptions, but the target audience is someone with little to no background in healthcare.
IS THIS BURNOUT?
In this weeks vlog I’ll take you with me as I do my second weekend solo as the only provider at the office, explore its my family, navigate a bunch of new patients, talk a bit about how I tell patients they are pregnant, and get into some honest talk about feeling a bit burnt out as a family nurse practitioner and annoyed with the healthcare system in general. As always I try to keep it real with you guys. I still love my job, it was just a bit of a rough week. Next week will be better!
